Community Jobs

It is good business to do business with Reach

Everyone wins when a member at Reach successfully trains for and takes a new job – the member, the employer, the family, and the community. The members experience all the wonderful benefits of having a job self-esteem, an opportunity to contribute, a chance to earn money, and all the benefits of being part of a company and group of coworkers.

The employer knows that Reach will go the extra mile to make sure the experience is positive for both the employer and the employee. Reach members truly love their jobs and work harder than most to keep their employers happy. The parents and families of Reach members are delighted to see the satisfaction their family member gets from from learning to work, earning a fair wage, and becoming more independent by working.

The community wins because Reach members are not only doing jobs that enhance our neighborhood, but they are also earning wages and paying taxes, reducing the burden on the community for their care and livelihood.

Contract Work

Businesses, schools and other enterprises can trust Reach to deliver services on-time and on-budget. Whether it is scheduled production or unplanned orders, count on Reach to have the flexibility to fit your contract into our work flow.

This allows a business to expand its capabilities without increasing workspace, overhead costs or payroll and benefits. Also pass on to customers the benefits of reasonable costs, quality work, and on-time delivery.

On Campus Employment

Glass Program

The Reach Unlimited Glass Program is dedicated to providing work opportunities to each Reach members so that he or she can earn a paycheck and be a contributing member of the community.

Remember the exhilaration you felt when you earned your first paycheck? Our Reach members feel the same way.

The Glass Program at the Learning Activity Center provides in-house opportunities for members to earn that paycheck. These members, many of whom are not yet ready to work in the outside community, gain a sense of purpose and self-worth while being creative and  having fun. Along with making the fused glass that Reach is known for, our clients carefully hand-imprint colorful napkins to make any celebration more personal and festive. All proceeds go directly back into the Glass Program—to pay the members and staff and buy supplies.

Greenhouse

Mission

The Greenhouse at Reach Unlimited provides all Members with meaningful exposure to gardening skills and the opportunity to develop job skills while supporting local community gardens to aid the local food insecure populations.

Vision

Reach Unlimited will create a financially sustainable, secure environment where people with developmental disabilities can become all they are created to be.

The Greenhouse at Reach is a teaching greenhouse to stimulate new learning about the steps of plant propagation and its connection to food production. Members sew seeds, water appropriately, transplant seedlings, weed, and then plant and attach plant name labels for sale to the general public.

Reach members learn from our skilled gardening instructor and work alongside a volunteer crew to grow a vast array of herb, vegetable, and succulent plants. Many of the herbs and vegetables are provided to local Community Gardens, while the succulents and ornamentals are crafted into decorative pots and centerpieces for sale.

The Greenhouse at Reach is proud to support 4 Cypress Community Gardens by providing over 1,700 plants annually yielding over 4,000 lbs of produce to local food pantries.  All of this is accomplished through a dedicated volunteer base and 1 paid instructor.

Microgreens

Goals and Purposes

The addition of microgreen propagation to the Reach main campus will serve two purposes:

A) primarily to serve as an on-site paid part-time employment site for Reach members, and

B) an additional enterprise that brings connections to the larger Cypress community to teach others about the abilities of people with IDD, and garner their support.

What is a Microgreen and how is it used?

A microgreen plant is the first stage of growth of certain vegetables and herbs that emerges from pathogen-treated seed to a 2”-5” growth, before the plant’s first true leaf emerges. The entire growth cycle is from 7-22 days total, and the stem and tiny green leaves are eaten, which contain all the nutrients of the full-grown vegetable/herb.

The process fits our members’ strengths. Reach is following in the footsteps of several businesses in the U.S. who used the proven business model “find the job that fits the client”. Written in Thomas D’Eri’s book “The Power of Potential”, these business models are used by Bitty and Beau’s coffee shop, started in North Carolina and now in Houston, HUGS café in McKinney, Texas and Rising Tide carwash (Mr. D’Eri’s business). An in-house employment opportunity provides a safe, supportive and flexible opportunity, and averts the need for transportation coordination.
